Science Fiction Snob Reviews The Adventures of Kim Il-Sung and Best Korea
The Adventures of Kim Il-Sung and Best Korea by Commi3 Mark has been making waves in the indie comic scene for its bold, satirical take on North Korean history and authoritarian regimes. Recently, the comic was reviewed by Science Fiction Snob, who shared his unique take on this one-of-a-kind graphic novel.
In his review, Science Fiction Snob opens by setting the tone, saying:
"Let's just say that this book is not a typical comic book...most comic books are drawn by somebody, but this one is not."
Instead of traditional artwork, the book uses historical photographs overlaid with text to tell the story of Kim Il-Sung and the rise of North Korea. The reviewer goes on to emphasize that the comic is a satirical piece, and while it might not be for everyone, it delivers a rarely told story. He notes:
"The story it tells is the story of how North Korea became North Korea. This is the true story...finally, you're going to get the truth story of how North Korea became North Korea, from the North Koreans."
Though Science Fiction Snob acknowledges that this book might not appeal to all readers, especially those expecting a traditional superhero comic, he appreciates the creativity and humor that Commi3 Mark brings to the table:
"He has a very unique sense of humor, and you can see that when you watch his YouTube shows."
One critique the reviewer does offer is the small font size:
"The text is really, really small. Some of us are old and we can't see so well anymore...how about it, Commi3 Mark? Give us a little bit of a break."
Despite this, he still encourages viewers to check out the comic and any future projects by Commi3 Mark, pointing to the author’s originality:
"Just because of the unusualness of this book, the creativity, you might consider backing his next project, whatever it is, because it will be different. It won't be a standard superhero comic."
